“Ridnyj Dom” (Family home) by Dmytro Horditsa, September 2022
Since the very beginning of the conflict, we have been doing our best to support Ukraine with our prayers. We organised ecumenical services at the Male Dominican Convent in Warsaw’s Old Town and at the PTAK Humanitarian Aid Centre in Nadarzyn. Members of the Club of Catholic Intelligentsia met online in a virtual chapel to pray together for peace.
In late February 2023, on the anniversary of the outbreak of the war, we participated in a nine-day prayer for Ukraine together with fellow congregations of Christian and other denominations. A website was created to gather up-to-date information about all prayer venues. In total, the continuous, nine-day prayer brought together over 40 congregations from various parts of Poland.
Currently, we hold monthly prayers. Our prayer reunions are streamed online so that everybody from both Poland and Ukraine can join us regardless of physical distance.
As part of the “Modlitwa za Ukrainę” (“Prayers for Ukraine”) project, together with the Dobry Grunt Foundation, we hold open-air icon-writing events with artists from Poland and Ukraine. The first event titled “Modlitwa za Ukrainę – Oblicza Światła” (“Prayers for Ukraine – The Faces of Light”) took place in September 2022, bringing together Polish and Ukrainian artists to write icons together. Another open-air event titled “Miłosierdzie, Eleos, Rachamim” (“Mercy, Eleos, Rachamim”) took place in late August 2023 in Łuczanowice. After the end of the first event, in 2022, the icons were exhibited in the Łuczanowice Mansion, in Piwnica Powszechna in Kraków, in the Zofia Weiss Gallery in Kraków, during a SzkoUA (Ukrainian School in Warsaw) meeting, as well as in the Male Dominican Convent at Freta Street in Warsaw. The icons from our collection were also exhibited in Częstochowa in the autumn of 2023.
